Beyond the Spa: 7 Epic Experiences You Can Have When You Stay at Los Altos de Eros
Our serene hilltop oasis in Costa Rica is known for luxury spa treatments, breathtaking sunsets, and soul-soothing tranquility. But here’s a secret: we’re also a launchpad for adrenaline, exploration, and wild wonder. Just beyond your massage table lies a world of unforgettable experiences and tropical thrills that awaken the senses, adding just the right edge to your relaxation retreat.
If you’re the type who wants to sip a green juice after ziplining through the jungle canopy, this one’s for you. Here are 7 unexpected adventures you can have while staying at Los Altos de Eros… because spa robes and surfboards go surprisingly well together.
1. Soar Through the Trees with a Zipline Adventure
Costa Rica is one of the best places on Earth to zipline, and we’re just a short ride away from some of the most exhilarating courses in the region. Fly like a bird through dense rainforest canopies, with sweeping ocean views, and howler monkeys chattering from the treetops. Most tours include a range of ziplines, hanging bridges, and even rappelling options for the truly bold.
Why it’s unforgettable: That moment of stillness at the top, just before you take off, is pure magic. It’s the closest you’ll come to flying without growing wings.
Pro tip: Book a morning slot for cooler temps and the best wildlife sightings.
2. Chase Waterfalls on a Guided Hike
Let the sound of cascading water guide you deep into the Costa Rican jungle. Local guides can lead you on a stunning afternoon waterfall hike, winding through lush trails to hidden falls perfect for a refreshing dip. These aren’t just Instagram-worthy moments, they’re immersive experiences that connect you to the rhythm of nature.
Why it’s unforgettable: The feeling of standing before a majestic, tropical waterfall with the sunlight beaming down on you is next-level bliss. No filter needed.
Pro tip: Wear water-friendly hiking shoes, a swimsuit, and bring a towel (trust us, you’ll want to dive in).
3. Catch a Wave in Tamarindo’s Famous Surf Scene
Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or just testing your balance, PlayaTamarindo is the perfect place to ride the waves. Known for its consistent breaks and laid-back surf culture, this beach town is just a short drive from Los Altos de Eros. Surf schools offer lessons for all levels, so you can paddle out with confidence.
Why it’s unforgettable: There’s something euphoric about standing up on your board for the first time. You’ll feel like you just conquered the ocean, and you’ll earn that sunset cocktail back at the resort.
Pro tip: The best time to surf is the 2-hour window before and after high tide.
4. Sail the Pacific on a Luxury Catamaran Tour
Looking for a picture-perfect afternoon? A catamaran cruise is a dreamy way to explore Costa Rica’s golden coast. Glide over crystal waters, sip tropical cocktails, and spot dolphins, sea turtles, and maybe even whales during the right season. Most tours offer a sunset sail and snorkeling stop for the full ocean-lover experience.
Why it’s unforgettable: Sunset on the water is a spiritual experience. It’s where serenity meets wonder and the salt-kissed breeze makes the world feel just right.
Pro tip: Bring a waterproof camera to capture every postcard-worthy moment.
5. Snorkel or Dive into a World Below the Surface
Want to get up close and personal with Costa Rica’s vibrant marine life? Snorkeling and diving tours offer access to coral reefs teeming with colorful fish, rays, octopuses, and more. For certified divers, the Catalina Islands and Bat Islands are world-renowned for their thrilling underwater encounters, including manta rays!
Why it’s unforgettable: Floating above a school of neon-blue angelfish or locking eyes with a sea turtle? It’s pure magic below the surface.
Pro tip: If you’re not scuba-certified but curious, many dive tours offer quick discovery dives with instructors.
6. Explore Local Culture in Nearby Villages
Adventure doesn’t always mean action. Sometimes, it’s about connection. Venture into nearby villages like Santa Cruz or Villareal where you can experience authentic Costa Rican culture, savor traditional cuisine, and maybe even catch a local festival or market. It’s a slower, richer kind of thrill.
Why it’s unforgettable: Sharing a plate of gallo pinto or learning a few Spanish phrases with locals is the kind of memory that sticks long after you leave.
Pro tip: Ask our team for tips on the best local restaurants and events during your stay.
7. Ride Horseback into the Sunset
Few things are as cinematic as riding horseback along the beach while the sun dips low over the Pacific. This gentle-paced adventure is perfect for first-time riders and romance-seekers alike. Trot through rolling hills, past estuaries, and onto golden sands as the sky turns to fire.
Why it’s unforgettable: The rhythm of the horse, the salt in the air, and the panoramic views combine to create a postcard moment you’ll never forget.
Pro tip: Book your ride just before golden hour for photos that’ll make your friends back home green with envy.
